Over the course of 5 weeks Myagi remixed a classic track by breaks legends Splitloop, live with an online group of students, demonstrating every step in his remixing process. He took this classic tune and morphed it into a whole new beast right in front of their eyes, showcasing every step in his process along the way.   • The basic “styles;” deconstruction, fortification, mashup, reference
  • How to decide which projects to take on
  • Bootlegging;  risk vs reward, low hanging fruit, building your name
  • How to cull a track for parts
  • How to cull an official remix pack
  • Diamonds in the rough – how to find the best elements

Week 2 – Warping And EQ’ing, Creative Treatment

  • How to make your parts work for you
  • Square peg / round hole – how to find the path of least creative resistance

What skill level is this course?
All skill levels are welcome. You don’t need to be a pro, but we do assume you’re familiar with the basics of Ableton Live. If you are a total beginner with Live, start with Ableton Live 9 Jumpstart and the Producer Bundle here on Warp Academy, and then take Synthesis 101 and Audio Weapons on Vespers.ca.

Is this course applicable to my genre?
In a word – yes. The techniques we teach can be applied universally to virtually any electronic music genre.

How long can I access this course and the videos?
You have access lifetime access to this course.

Are there downloads or templates for this course?
Yes.  The templates for each session of Art of the Remix are included on their applicable module page.

What version of Live do I need to use the course?
This course is done in Live 8 & 9, Suite 8 & 9.   Many of the techniques can also be done in Live 8.  A demo of Live is available at https://ableton.com, though be sure and wait until the course begins if you go this route as it will expire after 30 days.

What if I don’t have Live?
This is course is designed to teach concepts, and because of this, Ableton Live itself is not 100% necessary so long as you have a comparable DAW to work with.

What if I have trouble viewing the streaming videos?
Important: To get the best experience, we highly recommend you use the most updated version of Google’s free Chrome browser. This functions best with our streaming video players: Google Chrome

Can I download the videos?
No, but you have full access to all the video content after signing up. You can also access the videos from virtually any mobile device.

Are there any system requirements?
Yes, a broadband internet connection and computer are required. Minimum requirements are obviously the ability to run Ableton Live 8/9 so any computer with Mac OS 10.5 & Windows XP or newer should do just fine.
